Standard Operating Procedure – Drug Distributor: Disposal of Expired/Damaged/Rejected Stocks

Objective:
  • To ensure that expired/damaged and rejected stocks are properly labeled and disposed.
  • To guarantee that all expired/damaged and rejected stock are monitored and returned to the main supplier.

Scope:
  • Products that are expired/damaged or rejected that must be disposed properly.

Responsibility:
  • Pharmacist
  • Owner/Procurement personnel

Procedure:
  • All expired, damaged and rejected stocks are placed in a designated area/cabinet, which are away from the good stocks.
  • Segregate the toxic to non-toxic stocks.
  • Return the any possible stocks to the supplier.
  • Non-returnable stocks will be inventoried and disposed according to the requirements of the DENR.

Quality of Records:
  • Distribution logbook, see if the products are carefully selected and checked. Expiration date is checked.
