Moisten the wild cherry with 100ml of water. Pack in a percolator and add sufficient quantity of water to leave a layer of it above the powder. Macerate for 1 hour then proceed with rapid percolation, using added water until 400ml of percolate is collected. Filter the percolate and dissolve the sucrose in this by agitation, add the glycerin, alcohol and sufficient quantity of water to make the finished product measure 1000ml. Strain if necessary.

This may also be prepared in this manner; the sucrose may be dissolved by placing it in a second percolator as directed for preparing syrup and allowing the percolate from the wild cherry to flow through it into a graduated vessel containing the glycerin and alcohol until the total volume measures 1000ml.

Remarks: Heat is avoided in the manufacture of this preparation, as it will inactivate the enzyme emulsin and therefore the preparation would not contain free hydrocyanic acid upon which the sedative action mainly depends.
