Preparation:
Dissolve
sucrose in cherry juice by heating on a steam bath, cool and remove
the foam and floating solids. Add the alcohol and sufficient quantity
of purified water to complete the volume, mix well.
Possible
Uses:
Pleasant
flavored vehicle particularly in masking the salty taste of bromides
and chlorides. Superior in taste than ordinary cherry syrup.

Preparation:
Dissolve
the oils in the alcohol, add consecutively the fluidextract, tincture
and potassium hydroxide and 325ml of purified water. Add magnesium
carbonate, shake, allow to stand overnight, filter and add sufficient
quantity of purified water through the filter to make the liquid
500ml, pour the filtrate upon the sucrose contained in a bottle and
dissolve by placing the bottle in hot water, agitating the contents
frequently. Cool and add sufficient quantity of purified water to
make 1000 ml.

Preparation:
Add
the oil to the fluidextract, agitate to mix and add sufficient
quantity of syrup to make the product measure 1000ml.

Hydriodic
Acid Syrup NF

Hydriodic Acid 140ml

Preparation:
Mix
the diluted hydriodic acid and 550ml of purified water, add the
dextrose and agitate to dissolve. Finally add sufficient quantity of
purified water to make 1000ml and filter.
Possible
Uses:
Vehicle for expectorant drugs, its therapeutic properties are
attributed to the iodides.
Caution:
The syrup must not be dispensed if it contains free iodine, as
evidence by a red coloration.
Hydriodic
Acid Syrup (1) reacts with alkali to form salts. (2) Liberates
organic acid from their salts. (3) Converts certain water-soluble
organic compounds such as phenobarbital sodium into insoluble form.
(4) Oxidizing agents liberate iodine. (5) Alkaloids may precipitated.
(6) Bismuth subnitrate as partially reduced to a gray-black product
consisting of a mixture of iodides and oxides of bismuth.
