Because of the modern day era,
mothers, parents, guardians are so protective and concerned about the health of
their infant and child. So as their baby was delivered most parents use distilled
water as the water for their babies. Yes, water nowadays is not potable and
safe to drink. Deep well water is not safe to drink (when the community is very
populated and houses are crowded) and can only be used for household purposes
and bathing. This is because of the presence of bacteria that originated from
the human waste that had contaminated the water source. Even the water that is
being served by water concessionaire or company is not safe to drink at all, even
though it processed from the most advanced technological system of filtration
and purification.
So health is the concern and
babies are difficult to treat when they get sick, especially when diarrhea is
the problem. Thus, to avoid this disease to reach babies parents are very
meticulous regarding what to use as drinking water for their babies.
There are different waters in
the community. (1) The deep well water, (2) water distributed by water
concessionaires, (3) purified water, which often times called mineral water,
and (4) the distilled water. The first
three are likely the same but differs in the purity and safety of the water. The
last one is very different that it does not contain any mineral, electrolyte or
ion within it. It is just purely H2O.
Distilled water is a water
that made from the distillation of purified or water alone in the process
called distillation. Distillation process is a process which a liquid is
separated to the mixture using heat, which the liquid evaporates and returning
back to liquid again through condensation process. When the liquid is separated
from the mixture, the liquid that is distilled will be pure. For instance, when
water is distilled the electrolytes, ions, minerals will be separated from the
water and the water will be purely H2O alone and be called as distilled water.
Distilled water has widely use in the different industries such as
manufacturing, medicine, restaurants, household and etc. But the main concern
here is the use of distilled water at home whether it is more advantageous to
the household to use distilled water as a daily drinking water or to use
ordinary water to drink?
Advantage of Distilled water
1. Safe to drink because it is
purely water and does not contain any other element on it.
2. Safe for babies and elders
3. Avoids diarrhea for infants.
Disadvantage of Distilled
Water
1. Very expensive
2. Need to buy now and then
3. Bottles can be harmful to
the environment when not recycled
4. Decreases immune system buildup
of the child as he grows, due to non-exposure to possible microbes that can
boost the immune system of the child.
5. The infant or individual
who drinks it will have electrolyte imbalanced due to insufficient electrolytes
and ions present in the water.

Conclusion:
Water is important in our
life. Health depends on the water we drink, so it is important to drink clean
and potable water. As much as possible we want our family to have the best
health, thus, water is our number one concern. I believe that whatever your
family’s water will be, as long as it is safe to drink and potable there is no
problem about it. It is just our worries, and wants that motivate us to choose expensive
water. Remember, distilled water can protect your family from diarrhea alone,
but the benefit of other waters is greater than that of the distilled. Other
waters like mineral water, district water and deep well waters can help to
boost immune system of the individuals who drink it, especially those newly
born. Also it serves the right balance of hydration and electrolytes in our
body. If unsure about the safety of district water or deep water, one can
sterilize the water through boiling process. Even not all bacteria is killed at
least the bad ones are eliminated and the good ones retained. And one more
thing, if people before endured and lived without this kind of water, the new millennium
can also strive. It will be better if all the waters will be used. I do not
discourage the use of distilled water, but in some occasion it is better to drink
different waters to support our needs. Just remember nothing is perfect in this
world.
